This site is a repository for various creative work by me, Nick Parker, and my often-used moniker, The Impulse Powers.
The Impulse Powers is a project of writing and music based around mining my memory to illuminate moments of joy, and to re-inscribing moments of pain, to try to to find glimmers of light in them too.
As it’s such a personal narrative space, The Impulse Powers is largely a solo project, written, performed, tracked, mixed and (sometimes) mastered by me alone, in a series of home studio spaces.
The project has been running since 2012, but there were other “bands” before that I’ll also introduce and link to here, with lots of collaborators who all helped me build towards the work I am doing now.
Under my own name, I have also created musical criticism — both written and as podcasts — which is linked out from here as well.
This site exists so I can own the creative work that I have produced in a more or less public space, because I am defined by these projects as much as by any other aspect of my life.
I don’t dream of some abstract idea of success — I am really content to have made things. If any of this music or writing gives you something though, I’m happy to hear it.
